Bomb Threat - MVSU Campus
January 15, 2014
A bomb threat was issued for Mississippi Valley State University for Friday, January 17 and Saturday, January 18 and Monday, January 20 at the Leflore County Civic Center.  To ensure the safety of our campus, please be prepared to present I.D. once entering the MVSU campus and buildings. Residents of the campus must show I.D. each time they enter campus.  Due to the threat, there will be inconveniences until the matter is resolved. UPDATE: Wednesday, January 15, 2014 - 4:16 p.m.
As we continue to safeguard our campus, we are cancelling evening classes on Thursday, January 16, 2014 and all classes on Friday, January 17, 2014.  After the buildings are cleared on Friday, January 17, 2014, normal operations will resume.  Classes will resume on Tuesday, January 21.

Press Release - MVSU Receives Bomb Threat

Mississippi Valley State University has cancelled classes for Thursday evening and all day Friday as a precautionary measure after receiving a bomb threat earlier today. The bomb threat included the Mississippi Valley State University campus in Itta Bena and the Leflore County Civic Center.  All campus buildings and the civic center will be swept. Classes are scheduled to resume on Tuesday, January 21 following the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday Monday.

The University is taking all precautions to secure the MVSU campus and working in conjunction with the Greenwood Leflore Emergency Management Agency and local, state and federal law enforcement to ensure that the Leflore County Civic Center is safe for our upcoming games. 

Officials ask that the public exercise the following precautions at the game – no backpacks, large purses or containers. Attendees will be subject to search upon entering the game.

To ensure the safety of the MVSU campus, individuals arriving to campus should be prepared to present I.D. once entering the MVSU campus and buildings. Campus residents must show I.D. each time they enter.  More information will be provided as details unfold.

UPDATE: Thursday, January 16, 2014 - 1:38 pm
Mississippi Valley State University officially closed at 12 noon today.  It has been strongly recommended by law enforcement officials that students leave the campus. Students are directed to leave the campus this weekend. For the students that may need assistance, please contact your residential life director. MVSU will reopen on Tuesday, January 21. 

The MVSU v. Alcorn State University game scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 18 has been relocated and the MVSU v. Southern University game for Monday, Jan. 20 has been cancelled.

UPDATE: Friday, January 17, 2014 - 11:54 am
The campus of Mississippi Valley State University has been searched and secured by local, state and federal law enforcement officials.  The search did not recover any explosive devices or materials.  The University will reopen campus on Monday, Jan. 20 at 12 noon.
